encouragement letter
I wrote this to a friend struggling with turning to God. We all struggle with our milk-toast selves! I thought I'd share this...
God desires so much for you to turn to him.
It feels like such a burden to do so. It feels like such a task. We wallow in our lack of faith, our cowardice, our laziness, our weakness. This is Satan’s hold on us. He has us convinced that we, ourselves have to do this burdensome task. No! This is Satan’s trick! It is the curtain our flesh puts before our eyes. Satan! Get thee behind me! Here lies God’s grace and forever enduring love. Here is the secret which isn’t a secret. We are only blind to this. If we obey, if we make the decision to lay ourselves on the alter purely out of obedience and faith- to die to ourselves, to turn to him fully. God reveals to you that it is not by man’s effort or desire but only by his mercy that we turn to God. And that this task, this burden to be willing to sacrifice everything for Christ, to die to yourself, comes from him and not yourself. God reveals to you that it isn’t this burdensome task. In fact what you were experiencing before, a life without God as your priority, was terribly worse, in fact the worst! We walked aimlessly in fear, not knowing what to do, not fulfilling the gift and promise that God gave us. Jesus says that his yoke is easy and his burden is light. Turn to him! Why do you put yourself through this? All it takes is to obey. Obey. Period. And by faith, lay yourself on the alter, and be willing to sacrifice everything for him. He, our Lord God in heaven will see this and take you into his care. He loves you beyond what you can fathom of love. Your spirit cries out for Him and you continue to live in fear and doubt, relying only on yourself. Once you turn to him, the burden of this life is easy and the walk with Christ is light. And everything you sacrificed he gives back, and more! Thinking of living for Christ wholly and purely seems daunting because we can only think of it in humanistic terms, and it seems undesirable because we don’t desire it now. It will become your consuming desire when you turn to him. Amen! Your heart cries for what it is supposed to do in the world. When you turn to Christ, and die to yourself, theses false desires of the heart no longer have you chained to this world. In return he gives you your heart’s desires. He gives you your heart’s desires! You are on this earth for Him! Not yourself. Do not conform any longer to the patterns of this world! If out of obedience you just lay yourself before him, he will change your heart! Don’t you want to be free of the chains of this world?! Don’t you want to be free from doubt, fear, uncertainty… Turn to Him, he is waiting for you. Give him your burdens, your fears, your doubts. Give him everything. Sever the chains that are keeping you from becoming the child of God you were born to be! And God will answer. Then all you will desire is to serve the God who saved you, who loves you, even though you turned away from him an uncountable amount of times. Then you are His! And He is yours! Praise the Lord! Amen!
Another point must be brought to attention. God commands this of us. The Apostles did not have some higher calling that only a few get chosen for. God commands us to walk that same path. God commands us to walk the path of Jesus. Fear God! He commands this of us! He does not say we can have the Light, or we will have the light. But that we are the Light! We are Disciples! Who are we to question God! Obey him! Die to yourself! Do not conform any longer to the patterns of this world! There is no such thing as balance! You cannot serve two masters! I pray to the Lord in Heaven that He makes your life harder and more terrible if that is what will make you turn to the Lord! Pray that He does this! Or else we can slip away and become useless to Him and barely escape the fire on the Day of Judgment. God is calling you. Right now he is calling you to him. Be still and know that He is God, and listen. It is time to climb the mountain and stop wallowing in the lowlands. Get on your knees and cry out to the Lord, “save me, I am yours, thy will be done!” And in faith believe that it is!
Shall we continue living in a way that mocks his Word and denies His Will?
Jesus says his yoke is easy and his burden is light
All the glory be praised to the Lord God Almighty and his Son Jesus Christ forever and ever. Amen.
